Deuteronomy 6:6-7 - The Verses Project

Bible Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Posted April 16, 2012

6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

So many beautiful things are found in these verses:

1) Would God's commands be on our heart, and not just our minds. Would our affections & emotions & whole being be influenced by His Word. Shun legalism, embrace joy in His Word! Where your emotions are distant and sin feels more drawing, ask the Holy Spirit to do a work in your heart and draw you closer to him.

2) This verse is also a challenge to parents to teach this affection for God's Word to their children... Not just in "sacred places" (church, Sunday school, etc.), but also in all of life (at home, in the kitchen, on walks, at the playground). Would we be diligent in this, even when it feels like hard work.

We have 2 songs this week: Jaime Cochran wrote on that Chris Clark mixed, and Joel Limpic wrote the other (recorded very simply on my nylon string).

Memorize & meditate, friends. Delight. Don't walk through the motions! Start the day with a time of prayer & meditation, asking God to open your eyes to see him through his Word.
