Jeremiah 29:11-14 - The Verses Project

Bible Jeremiah 29:11-14

Posted August 05, 2013

11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, declares the Lord...

These often quoted verses from the book of Jeremiah offer us amazing insight into God and His heart for His people! Here are 4 truths we learn about God:

God as One who plans

God is never “plan-less” or confounded by a situation. He never has to go back to the drawing board; He’s never caught scratching His head. He never has to call an emergency brainstorming session with Michael and the angels. He knows the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10), and works all things according to His purpose (Ephesians 1:9). Note that these plans are for His people’s ultimate welfare, not for evil. Even when it seems in our eyes like His plans may be evil, He has promised good to His children. This truth should give us great comfort! Even when our plans fail, God’s plans will never fail. What God plans and sets out to do, He accomplish for His glory and our good!

God as One who hears

As we call upon God and come to Him and pray to Him, He promises us that He will hear us. He won’t turn a deaf ear toward those who call to Him sincere hearts! We have a mediator at the right hand of God: His Name is Jesus. We can trust that God hears our cries for help in the same way that God heard His own Son. He is the God who hears.

God as One who is found

Not only will He hear us, but He promises He will be found by us if we seek Him with our whole hearts. What are you seeking with all your heart? Riches? Fame? Comfort? Pleasure? If it’s God, He promises you that you will get the desires of your heart. Does He feel hidden and absent? Know that God promises that He will be found by you. Don’t give up hope! This hope is grounded not in positive thoughts, but God’s Word. He is not one to lie...

God as One who declares

These promises aren’t merely spoken by God, but declared by Him! He does not mumble or stutter them. He doesn’t state them quietly under His breath so that no one hears Him. Where we are timid, He is confident! Where we are weak, He is strong! Our faith and hope are not in our own plans, but God’s sovereign purposes. May His declaration of these powerful promises fill us with great hope!
